TUMS School of Dentistry Hosts International Webinar Spotlighting European Advances in Oral Cancer Awareness and Prevention
On April 29, 2025, Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) School of Dentistry successfully hosted a free international webinar focused on oral cancer awareness, featuring leading European experts who shared groundbreaking initiatives and preventive strategies shaping the future of oral healthcare.
The webinar, titled“Oral Cancer Awareness Campaign: A European Experience,”brought together top specialists from Europe to highlight innovative collaborative networks and personalized approaches to early detection and prevention of oral cancer.
Professor Saintigny Pierre, Medical Oncologist at Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, opened the session with a compelling keynote onINTERCEPTOR,a pioneering European network dedicated to early oral cancer detection. His presentation captivated attendees, emphasizing the critical importance of timely diagnosis in improving patient outcomes.
Following this, Dr. Valérie Szönyi, Dentist and Secretary of Réseau ReCOL, introduced the French collaborative research network transforming dental practices across the region. She detailed how Réseau ReCOL fosters partnerships between researchers and clinicians to integrate cutting-edge cancer prevention strategies into everyday dental care.
The final speaker, Professor Rui Amaral Mendes, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon affiliated with Universidade do Porto and Case Western Reserve University, discussed the emerging field of personalized cancer prevention. Drawing on clinical data, he highlighted the benefits of tailoring preventive measures to individual patient profiles, underscoring the potential for customized approaches to reduce cancer risk more effectively.
Moderated by Dorsa Jalali, a member of SiCoDS at TUMS School of Dentistry, the interactive webinar attracted a diverse global audience eager to learn about real-world applications and innovations in oral cancer prevention.
