History of Periodontics Department in Tehran University of Medical Sciences

The Periodontics department of Tehran university of medical sciences has been set up since 1956 in the school of dentistry. In first years, the periodontics and the oral medicine departments were part of a same ward under supervision of Dr. Sayyah. In 1966, the Faculty of Dentistry divided into five departments. In the same year, the Periodontics Department embarked on its mission under the supervision of Dr. Khoii. Over the following decades, the Periodontics Department conducted number of courses in periodontics for undergraduate dental students. Later, the Department has started to admit post graduate residents in the field of periodontics from 1976.
