History of Endodontics Department in Tehran University of Medical Sciences

In 1939, the school of dentistry was established subsidiary to the school of Medicine, offering a four year course teaching theoretical and practical units such as “practical dentistry and maintenance of teeth” which was taught by Dr. Heydar Sarkhosh at that time. At that time, the “practical dentistry and maintenance of teeth” unit consisted of what is called “Restorative dentistry” and “Endodontics” today. In 1966, the Department of Endodontics was separated as an independent department with the efforts of Dr Ferdos. Eventually in 1977 and 1978, the Endodontic postgraduate course and its curriculum, regulations, units and duration was developed, defined approved and legislated.
