History of Orthodontics Department in Tehran University of Medical Sciences

Teaching orthodontics in Iran first began in 1946 by Dr. Hassan Riazi at the Faculty of Dentistry, Tehran University of Medical Sciences. In the same year, the first orthodontic clinic was founded in the faculty. The clinic became independent in 1950, and later changed to Department of Orthodontics. In 1975, the very first post-graduate orthodontic residency program in Iran was established at the TUMS Faculty of Dentistry; and to date, it enrolls 3-4 postgraduate students each year.
