Educational activities

The curriculum is designed for four target groups: undergraduate students, post-graduate students, Craniofacial Orthodontic Fellowships and Dental Prosthodontics students.

 For undergraduate students, three theoretical courses are presented in the seventh, eighth and ninth semesters. Furthermore, four practical courses in the eighth, ninth, tenth and eleventh semesters are provided.

The curriculum for the orthodontic specialty is planned in six semesters which takes at least three years. moreover, qualified international post-graduate students are accepted in this section.

 

Research activities

The research activities of the group are aimed at improving the research skills of faculty members , postgraduate and undergraduate students in the following forms:

  • Weekly journal clubs
  • Participation of the members in training courses about scientific writing and research methodology
  • Adjustment, registration and implementation of research projects in line with the research priorities of the group
  • Publication of scientific articles in reputable national and international journals
  • Design and implementation of undergraduate and postgraduate thesis
  • Active participation in the journal of dentistry of Tehran University of Medical Sciences and Iranian Journal of Orthodontics, and collaboration with reputable national and international publications
  • Participation in national and international scientific congresses
  • Cooperation with other departments of faculty and other research centers
  • Research activities in education to improve educational status

Treatment activities

Providing health care to patients by under-graduate and post-graduate students under precise supervision of faculty members in the following sub-groups:

  • Prediction of treatment outcomes
  • Growth modification treatments
  • A variety of fixed orthodontic treatments
  • Treatment of skeletal jaw discrepancies, including patients suffering from syndromes and clefts
  • Orthodontic treatment in patients requiring orthognathic surgery
  • Orthodontic treatments as a part of multidisciplinary therapies in patients requiring other dental treatments including restorative, prosthetic and periodontic therapies as well as dental implant placement.
