Educational activities

Department of Prosthodontics provides didactic courses, preclinical instructions and clinical training in removable and fixed prosthodontics, maxillofacial prosthetics, temporomandibular joint disorders, occlusion, and implant dentistry for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. It is responsible for teaching dental anatomy and morphology and training undergraduate students to carve teeth out of chalk.

Undergraduate students pass 8 units including didactic, preclinical and clinical courses in complete removable denture, 7 units in removable partial denture, 8 units in fixed prosthodontics and some integrated courses.

Comprehensive Dentistry is a multidisciplinary course in which different departments are involved. Undergraduate students pass this course in their two final semesters. They have to do all dental services for a patient from beginning to the end. Another integrated multidisciplinary course is “diagnosis and treatment of temporomandibular disorders” which is offered in cooperation with Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department in addition to Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine Department.

The Specialty education curriculum in Prosthodontics is based on standard programs accepted globally. The duration of program is 3-4 years. Non-Iranian students are accepted too. The Department also offers advanced education programs in the form of fellowships and PhD by research.

 

Research activities

Members of the Prosthodontics Department supervise research on different projects in form of undergraduate and postgraduate theses, or conduct a research independently. In both cases the topics have to be approved by the Department, Research Council of School and the Research Council of the University. There might be multidisciplinary researches in collaboration with other departments or even other universities. Many of the researches are published in national or international journals.

Other research activities of the Department members include:

  • Membership of editorial board of national and international journals
  • Selected Reviewers in national and international journals
  • Participation in congresses held in Iran or other countries
  • Research in the field of dentistry education to promote the quality of programs in pace with innovations in education and evidence -based dentistry

Treatment activities

Department of Prosthodontics provides following services in student and post-graduate clinics under supervision of faculty members:

  • Removable complete dentures;
  • Removable partial dentures;
  • Maxillofacial prosthetics;
  • Fixed prosthodontics (including CAD/CAM restorations);
  • Fixed and removable Implant supported prostheses;
  • Treatment of temporomandibular joint disorders.
