Department of Dental Biomaterials

Since its establishment in 2000, the Department of Dental Biomaterials at the TUMS School of Dentistry has been at the forefront of innovation, shaping the future of dental materials science in Iran. As the first department of its kind in the country, it has played a pivotal role in bridging the gap between research, education, and industry. Officially recognized in 2002, our department has been a driving force in revolutionizing the study and application of dental biomaterials.

Our journey has been marked by groundbreaking research, rigorous quality control measures, and strong collaborations with manufacturers, ensuring that advancements in biomaterials translate into real-world improvements in dental care. A significant milestone was reached in 2007 with the introduction of our Ph.D. program, further solidifying our reputation as a leading institution for dental biomaterials education and research. Today, we remain dedicated to pushing the boundaries of innovation, training the next generation of experts, and contributing to the development of superior, locally produced dental materials.

Vision & Missions

Bridging Science and Industry: We strive to create a strong link between academic research and industrial application, empowering dental students to engage with the industry and drive innovation in biomaterials.

Comprehensive Dental Education: Through a structured curriculum spanning the sixth to twelfth semester, we provide future dentists with in-depth scientific and practical knowledge of dental materials, enhancing the quality of oral healthcare services.

Pioneering Research for Self-Sufficiency: Our department is committed to conducting fundamental and applied research to reduce dependency on imported dental materials and achieve industrial self-sufficiency in biomaterials production.

Expanding Academic Collaborations: We actively foster partnerships with universities specializing in metallurgy, biotechnology, and nanotechnology to develop joint research projects and localize dental material technologies.

National Reference Laboratory: Our goal is to establish the Dental Biomaterials Laboratory as a leading national reference lab, setting new standards in dental materials testing and development.

With a commitment to excellence and a vision for the future, the Department of Dental Biomaterials continues to shape the landscape of dentistry through innovation, education, and impactful research.
