Department of Prosthodontics

A legacy of restoring function and aesthetics, the Department of Prosthodontics at Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) is deeply rooted in the history of dental rehabilitation. The origins of prosthodontics in Iran trace back to pre-1851 workshops dedicated to “making denture prostheses,” predating the establishment of Dar al-Fonoon, Iran’s first higher education institution. In 1918, the first dental school, "School of Denture Making," was founded by Dr. Melczarski, Dr. Stump, Dr. Stepanian, and Dr. Sayyah as part of the Medical School, laying the foundation for modern prosthodontic education and practice.

Today, our department continues to honor this legacy while embracing cutting-edge advancements in clinical prosthodontics and digital technology. We focus on restoring lost teeth and oral tissues, rehabilitating severely damaged teeth, and improving oral health through the use of biocompatible materials and innovative methods.
