TUMS School of Dentistry Forges Stronger Global Ties at ASOMP 2025 and Penang Academic Visit
From May 23 to 24, 2025, a delegation from Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) School of Dentistry participated in the 11th Conference of the Asian Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology (ASOMP) in Malaysia. The visit extended through May 29, as students engaged in an academic exchange at Penang International Dental College (PIDC), deepening international collaboration in dental education.
The 11th ASOMP conference, held in Malaysia on May 23 and 24, brought together leading oral and maxillofacial pathology experts from across Asia and beyond. The TUMS School of Dentistry delegation, composed of students and faculty members, actively contributed to the event through research presentations, panel discussions, and interactive sessions.
The conference served as a critical platform for scientific exchange, fostering discussions on emerging trends, innovative research, and the future direction of dental education. Participants emphasized the importance of cross-border collaboration in advancing oral healthcare and training globally competent professionals.
Following the conference, TUMS students continued their international engagement with an official academic visit to Penang International Dental College (PIDC) from May 25 to 29. Hosted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ajay Telang, Dean of PIDC, the visit offered the students an immersive experience in international dental education through campus tours, classroom interactions, and cultural exchanges.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pouyan Aminishakib, Vice-Dean for Global Strategies and International Affairs at TUMS, highlighted the significance of these interactions. “International collaboration goes beyond strategy — it’s about fostering genuine connections and shared visions that build a global academic community,” he said. His reunion with Dr. Telang underscored the close-knit nature of this global dental education network.
This partnership between TUMS and PIDC reflects a broader commitment to cultivating dental professionals equipped to meet evolving global health challenges. The experience not only broadened the students’ academic perspectives but also reinforced the value of cultural exchange in professional development.
TUMS continues to prioritize international initiatives as a core component of its educational mission, recognizing that global engagement enhances both knowledge and empathy. As the university looks ahead, it aims to strengthen such collaborative efforts, building bridges that enrich the academic journey and contribute to advancements in oral health worldwide.
