The human head and neck harbor a complex array of tissues, making them susceptible to a vast spectrum of pathological conditions. From common odontogenic cysts and tumors to rare epithelial and salivary gland disorders, each case presents unique diagnostic challenges. Some lesions, like radicular cysts, are frequently encountered, while others remain elusive, demanding expertise in histopathology for accurate identification. Given the crucial role of early and precise diagnosis in patient care, it is imperative for dental professionals to stay at the forefront of oral pathology advancements.

At the TUMS School of Dentistry, our Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology Department stands as a pioneering institution in Iran, dedicated to equipping both undergraduate and postgraduate students with cutting-edge knowledge and hands-on experience. Vision and Missions

Founded in 1965 by the esteemed Dr. Esmail Yazdi, the Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology Department at Tehran University of Medical Sciences has been a cornerstone of dental education and research in Iran. Over nearly six decades, our faculty has played a pivotal role in training generations of dental students across 43 academic courses and guiding over 23 cohorts of specialist residents in oral pathology.

Beyond education, we are deeply committed to advancing research in the field. Our department has contributed significantly to scientific knowledge, with numerous dissertations and published articles shaping contemporary understanding of oral diseases.
