,Dental Biomaterials is a basic science which deals with the composition, modification in composition, fabrication characterization and evaluation of dental biomaterials' properties. There are different types of dental biomaterials due  to their intended purposes e.g. restorative materials, endodontic materials, impression materials, orthodontic materials, .dental implants and etc

Furthermore, it includes the application of the analytical techniques of materials science to the characterization and mechanical testing of dental biomaterials. the biological tests are also performed on theses biomaterials to

 .consider their biocompatibility

In 2003, the Department of Dental Biomaterials was approved by Iran Ministry of Health, and in 2007, the first group of it's students entered Tehran University of Medical Sciences, and until now, every year, it accepts students from Iranian and international general dentists for a 4-year PhD course. The importance of the field of dental biomaterials is due to it's close connection with dental specialties, the educational and research potentials, and the connection with the industry; because companies that produce or import dental biomaterials  need to consult with experts in this field to provide the best products to the market. Department of Dental Biomaterials of Tehran University of Medical sciences welcomes any kind of interdisciplinary cooperation and  recruitment of international students in PhD level with the      support of the advanced equipment and facilities in it's laboratories

We are concerned with the education of dentists who wish to advance their knowledge and research skills in the field of dental materials to the highest qualification standards. Professional excellence and integrity in education is considered with the highest professional ethical consideration.

The mission of this program is to provide education and training candidates in this field. Ultimately, it may lead to improve oral care and human health. The graduates will be qualified to teach in the dental faculties. Also, they develope their research skills baced on national or international priorities.
