 Graduate program in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology
TUMS Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology is a preeminent department of Oral and maxillofacial pathology in Iran which provides a basic and advanced education for under and post graduate dental students and treatment. This department owns the largest archive of oral and maxillofacial lesions in Iran (more than 15300 samples) including slides, paraffin embedded blocks and clinical and Para-clinical documents.  We also conduct under and post-graduate thesis-based research as well as cooperating with credible scientific centers such as Iran Cancer Institute and Iran Dental Research Center in research and educational programs. We have digital and traditional paper records of our archive which provide us documents enabling us to access   precise and valuable information for further research.

Curricular design
The Oral Pathology Residency Program at Tehran University of Medical Sciences is designed to train the post-graduate students in Oral Pathology to diagnose the diseases of oral mucosa, jaw bone and salivary glands.
Training will be provided at the School of Dentistry, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology with the collaboration of TUMS-affiliated hospitals. Hospital rotations include general pathology, neuropathology, dermatopathology, hematopathology, ENT pathology and some clinical rotations. The residency training program consists of 117 credit units and at the end of the program the postgraduates have to define their thesis to receive their specialty degree.

 Main areas of research:
• Epidemiologic studies on odontogenic and non-odontogenic lesions of the jaws potentially malignant and non-malignant lesions of oral cavity, especially oral squamous cell carcinoma
• Immunostaining studies on pathophysiology of the most common head and neck lesions including oral squamous cell carcinoma, salivary gland tumors, oral lichen planus, odontogenic tumors and cysts.
• Cytogenetic studies using various PCR techniques to elucidate the pathophysiology of head and neck malignancies, especially salivary gland tumors and oral squamous cell carcinoma.
• Multidisciplinary molecular targeted therapy investigations using cell lines of oral squamous cell carcinoma to introduce novel therapeutic approaches
